10 Best Gym Bags For Any Type Of Workout

If you’re going to the gym on a regular basis then you need a gym bag, plain and simple. It doesn’t need to be fancy, but it does need to be functional. With so many companies making an investment in their workforce by way of funding or contributing to corporate gym memberships, finding a functional, stylish, yet not too over-the-top gym bag is certainly worthwhile.

Here are some of the top benefits to investing in an appropriate gym bag:

  1. Having a bag helps you plan properly. The last thing you want is an excuse to stop by Burger King on the way home instead of hitting them gym because you forgot your gym gear.
  2. Girls (or guys) don’t want to smell your dirty, nasty gym clothes after a hard workout. You need a well ventilated place to keep all your gear once you’re finished.
  3. Those lockers that you use at the gym, yeah, they’re not clean. However, you can keep your gym bag clean, which means you can keep your gear free from all the disgusting bacteria at the gym (or at least some of it).

Top 10 Best Gym Bags

Whether you’re coming from work in a suit in tie, or running to the gym from a local apartment, it doesn’t matter. We’ve gone through and picked through 10 awesome bags that won’t break the bank, but will suit your needs.

You may notice that Adidas and Under Armour tend to dominate the duffel bag market.

Adidas Team Speed

Size: 21” x 11” x 11”

Made of 100% polyester and comes in 14 different colors, all of which match to existing Adidas footwear and other apparel. Will carry shoe sizes up to size 13, anything else would be a bit too much for this size bag. Utilizes a plastic bottom, so you don’t have to worry about gear ripping through.

Can also double as carry-on luggage.

Under Armour Undeniable II

Size: 17” x 35” x 16”

Made of 100% polyester, with a top grab handle and front d-ring for an optional shoulder strap. Also has a “wet storage” area on one end, which is typically reserved for shoes. All pockets zip shut, and the main storage compartment is large enough for a (small) laptop, gym clothes, towel, toiletries, and small gear (i.e. MMA gloves, lifting straps, athletic tape, etc.).

Outdoor Products Mountain Duffel

Size: 24” x 12” x 12”

This may be the only bag on the list that seems a little out of place, but it’s received so many raving reviews, and at its price point it was too difficult to leave it off the list.

It comes in 2 sizes (medium and extra large) and we are looking at the medium for this quick review.

The bag is made from 900D (heavy-duty) polyester and includes a large main u-shaped compartment and 2 large side pockets.  It also includes a front smaller zippered pocket for easy access. This bag is made of a bit tougher polyester than the other bags and thus also feels a little heavier.

Under Armour Undeniable I

Size: 25” x 13” x 11”

This is the original from the Undeniable series, and is very similar to the Undeniable II mentioned above. Some people even still prefer this bag over the upgrade.

It comes in 8 different colors, though we prefer a little flash (like the High-Vis Yellow). It is 100% polyester and finished with a water repellant. Shoulder strap is padded for comfort, and the bottom of the bag is lined with an abrasion resistant polyester. There is a large main section pocket, and 2 vented pockets on each end, 1 of which is expandable for shoes (or anything else).

Adidas Diablo

Size: 18” x 12” x 10”

This bag comes in 40 colors! And like the Adidas Team Speed duffel bag, they do match other Adidas apparel. Overall the bag is a classic duffel, with only 1 main pocket for carrying gear. It’s a great size, but lacks any small organizers, so if you carry a lot of gadgets you may want to opt for one of the others.

Nike Brasilia 6

Size: 24.5” x 12” x 13”

This Nike duffel is a very similar size to the Under Armour Deniable I, which is one of the most popular gym bags. It’s a very conventionally built bag, with a horseshoe zipper main pocket and 2 end compartments.

The only negative is there is no padding on the shoulder strap, which is typically fine for gym use, but may be annoying if you want the bag to double as something else.

Under Armour Hustle Storm

Size: 20” x 11” x 10”

Standard top grip handle and removable and adjustable padded shoulder strap. The bag consists of 2 large vented end pockets, 1 main compartment and small front zip pocket for keys, wallet, etc.

The bag is 100% polyester and big enough to fit 1-2 basketballs. It only comes in 4 colors: Black, Tropic Pink, High-Vis Yellow, and Pacific Blue. But overall the bag is good looking.

Adidas Defender II

Size: 24” x 13” x 12”

The Defender comes in 3 different sizes (small, medium, large). We preferred the medium bag and that’s the bag we’ll be discussing.

It includes a lifetime warranty, ventilated endcap (or end pocket) and padded shoulder strap. The bag will stand mostly erect on its own and also includes a padded base to protect gear. It is 100% polyester and made of 3D hexagon ripstop, which is a very durable material design.

Puma Men’s Teamsport Formation 20

Size: 20” x 9.5” x 18.5”

Outer shell made of a durable polyester that will hold up against lighter rains. There are 3 main pockets:

  1. Large zip compartment
  2. Side ventilated shoe compartment
  3. Internal (small) zip pocket

It’s machine washable and comes in 6 different colors, and is also one of the widest packs on this list.

OGIO Crunch

Size: 22” x 13.5” x 10”

Although OGIO isn’t a popular brand, we really liked this bag, and would probably move it up higher on the list if we had to do it over again.

With that said, it’s got a large u-shaped compartment with top grip handles, along with an adjustable/padded shoulder strap. Each end contains a zippered pocket and low on the front is another u-shaped pocket for storing some smaller gear.

Do You Already Have A Bag That Works?

Before you head over to Amazon or drive down to your local sporting goods store, look around the house. Maybe you’ve already got a bag that will work perfectly as a gym bag. If you’re a runner or a hiker you may have a backpack that can double as a gym bag, especially if you’re not using them anymore.

Whatever you do, don’t be that guy (or girl) that walks into the gym with their gear in a plastic grocery bag.
